T. rex vs. T. rex. Da fossili a icone del cinema

Address: Via Montebello, 20 Torino (TO) In the scenographic heart of the Mole Antonelliana, the exhibition offers an unprecedented dialogue between the deep time of science and the imaginative universe of cinema. For the first time in a museum installation, two original Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons – imposing fossils about 10 metres long and weighing one tonne each, unearthed in the United States and certified by palaeontologist Peter Larson – are mounted facing one another in a fighting stance on a raised platform in the Temple Hall. The exhibition itinerary, curated by Gianni Canova and Stefano Boni with the collaboration of Giaime Alonge, unfolds along the helical ramp retracing more than a century of history of the seventh art and visual culture. From the first projections with magic lanterns in the nineteenth century to contemporary special effects, the exhibition explores how a creature extinct tens of millions of years ago has become an icon of the collective imagination.
