Peter Fischli. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, 2026.

Organizer: Pinacoteca Agnelli Peter Fischli’s work starts from the image of tourist trains on wheels that cross cities, offering passengers a guided and standardized visual experience. The artist breaks these “trains without tracks” down into a series of disparate parts: overturned, flipped over, unusable carriages. What emerges is a reflection on mass tourism and on the total consumability of history and culture. The little trains develop vertically along the space of the ramp of the former FIAT factory at Lingotto, following an impossible route that symbolically links the base of the building — now occupied by a shopping center — to its cultural summit, represented by the museum on the racing track. At the same time, this visual fragmentation recalls the imaginary of Futurism and its idea of modernity and progress, of which the Lingotto is an emblem. The logical and serial process of industrial production is thus reflected in the absurdity and emptiness of the little trains, where even human experience is reduced to merchandise along an assembly line.
