Margherita, prima regina d’Italia. Storia, cultura e stile tra Palazzo e Biblioteca Reale

Organiser: Musei Reali A dossier exhibition dedicated to Margherita of Savoy and the precious library heritage that the sovereign collected over the course of her life. The exhibition offers a journey through ancient books, archival documents, engravings, historical photographs and materials that are largely unpublished, offering an original view of the queen’s personality, interests and institutional role. The route is completed by some precious gifts coming from all over Italy, testimony to the bond between Margherita and the country. The story is told through a rich selection of papers, volumes and period images that retrace significant moments of her life: from her birth at Palazzo Chiablese to the great celebrations organised in 1868 between Turin, Florence and Genoa on the occasion of her marriage to her cousin and heir apparent Umberto of Savoy. On the occasion of the exhibition, the eighteenth-century rooms of Margherita’s Apartment at Palazzo Reale reopen exceptionally to the public, allowing visitors to discover how these rooms were transformed over time according to the queen’s taste and the require
