End: 17:00 At the Libri in Nizza festival, Francesca Cappelletti presents the essay Caravaggio, una vita in dieci quadri (Mondadori), in conversation with Arturo Galansino. Writing a biography of Caravaggio is an impossible undertaking: too modern and elusive, Michelangelo Merisi is suspended between the cliché of the cursed artist and documentary gaps on apprenticeship, escapes and pictorial revolutions. Francesca Cappelletti offers a journey through his life and his genius through ten of his best-known works. In Bacchino malato , in Giuditta e Oloferne or in Martirio di San Matteo, fragility, the tormented character and the unfathomable melancholy of the painter emerge. Extraordinary paintings for their rendering of reflections and the splendour of black, capable of changing art and keeping the enigma of Caravaggio alive, entrusting the word to his paintings. __________ Francesca Cappelletti is director of the Galleria Borghese in Rome.
