The Other Side of History is the exhibition route hosted in the Royal Medal Collection, recently reopened to the public after an important redevelopment intervention. The exhibition offers an unprecedented perspective on history through the female images preserved in the extraordinary numismatic collections of the Royal Museums, consisting of about 60,000 items including coins, medals and seals. A heritage in which women’s faces play a surprisingly significant role, representing about one third of the entire collection. The exhibition accompanies visitors on a journey across eras and civilizations, highlighting female figures who left their mark on history, from the legendary Cleopatra VII to the powerful Julia Domna, from Galla Placidia to Catherine of Russia, and to Margherita of Savoy, the protagonist of a refined construction of her public image through symbols and official representations.
