Fiera del Sedano Rosso

Orbassano celebrates in October the Fiera del Sedano Rosso, dedicated to the prized vegetable that grows in the countryside on the outskirts of Turin. Orbassano, a town in the Turin metropolitan area, is the home of the Sedano Rosso di Orbassano, an ancient variety with red stalks that turn white thanks to the particular cultivation technique, with an intense and aromatic flavour, a star of Piedmontese autumn cuisine. The fair celebrates red celery with stalls where producers display freshly harvested heads, and the food stands offer it in traditional preparations, from bagna cauda to flans, from soups to savoury pies, together with dishes of Piedmontese cuisine and wines from the area. The producers tell about the cultivation of this rare vegetable, grown only by a few families in the area according to techniques handed down for generations. The fair combines gastronomy with markets, agricultural exhibitions, live music and activities for families, in an autumn festival that attracts visitors from the area.
