End: 12:30 Painting, literature and music have told the story of Dido and Aeneas countless times: a story of love and abandonment. At the end of the seventeenth century, the English composer Henry Purcell gave it a highly striking visual version: it is the myth told by Virgil, which softens and blurs into a fairy tale, where witches, magical apparitions and an almost dreamlike atmosphere help create a exquisite chamber opera in the triumph of the very Baroque poetics of wonder. Music, singing and evanescence: on these impulses Controluce tells the story of Dido and Aeneas with silhouettes and human shadows. From the opening image of Aeneas’s boat crossing the stage, to the sail-screens - the ideal and symbolic place for the story to unfold - the story of Dido and Aeneas turns into a great mosaic of the memory of the Trojan prince who leaves Carthage forever to go toward his destiny as a hero.
