La Morra, CN
A hill town at 513 metres, the highest of the Barolo communes, with around seventy wine producers in its territory. Its terrace above Piazza Castello gives the widest single view over the Barolo vineyards. It also has the region's best known piece of contemporary art in a vineyard.
Sights
- The belvedere at Piazza Castello, the panoramic terrace over the Barolo hills, with orientation panels naming the crus
- The bell tower of 1710, the surviving tower of the demolished castle, climbable for a higher view
- Cappella delle Brunate, a 1914 vineyard workers' shelter repainted in 1999 by Sol LeWitt outside and David Tremlett inside, never consecrated
- Chiesa dell'Annunziata, a former Benedictine complex whose cellars house the Museo Ratti dei Vini d'Alba
- Cantina Comunale di La Morra, the communal cellar founded in 1973, pouring wines from growers of the comune

- Walk the Sentiero del Barolo, a marked loop through the Brunate and Cerequio vineyards linking La Morra to Barolo
- Taste at the Cantina Comunale to compare La Morra Barolo against neighbouring communes
- Look for local IGP Piedmont hazelnuts as well as wine
- Time a visit to the Cappella late in the day when the light is on the painted west wall

Degusta La Morra
Open-air tasting through the streets and squares of the village, run with the Cantina Comunale, on the first weekend of September.
July and August
Frazione feasts
Local village festivals with food and music in Santa Maria and Rivalta.
When to visit
September and October for harvest and clear long views. The belvedere is best on a dry autumn morning before haze builds.
