Province CN
Cuneo, CN
A provincial capital at 534 metres on a wedge of land where the Stura and Gesso meet, laid out with long arcaded streets and one very large central square. It is the practical base for the Maritime Alps and the passes into France.
Sights
- Piazza Galimberti, the vast rectangular main square, arcaded on all sides
- Via Roma, the old spine running from the square through the medieval quarter under continuous porticoes
- Chiesa di Santa Croce and Santissima Annunziata, the baroque churches of the old town
- Museo Civico di Cuneo, town and territory collections in a former convent
- Roughly eight kilometres of arcades through the centre, useful in rain or heat
Things to do
- Come on a Tuesday for the weekly market, which fills Piazza Galimberti and draws shoppers from across the French border
- Buy cuneesi al rhum, meringue and dark chocolate with a rum and chocolate filling
- Eat raviolini al plin
- Start from here into the Valle Gesso and the Maritime Alps
