Opening talk con Andrea Staid

Place: Circolo del Design. Address: Via S. Francesco da Paola 17 - Turin. Organizer: Circolo del Design. End: 19:00 Opening talk for the Earthrise 26 exhibition. From the Ground with Andrea Staid . Contemporary design needs to re-found its practices beyond the exhausting anthropocentrism of the Anthropocene. This talk intertwines the perspective of multinaturalism, based on overcoming the nature-culture fracture, with the concept of terricide developed by Indigenous activists to defuse the material and spiritual ecocide underway. Taking one’s place in a telluric dimension means stopping regarding matter as a mere passive resource to be shaped from the outside. Shaping with the world means turning design into an act of co-creation, listening and diplomacy with the non-human forces of the planet. Design thus becomes a regenerative and relational practice, capable of recognizing animal, plant and mineral life forms as acting subjects, countering telluric destruction with new political and visual ecologies of care.
