Marc Chagall e il tempo della visione

Place: Spazio ARCA. Address: Spazio ARCA, Piazza San Marco 1, 13100 Vercelli, VC “Marc Chagall and the time of vision. From European expressionism to contemporary painting” is the title of the exhibition starring the celebrated Russian-French painter, one of the most visionary and beloved artists of the twentieth century. In the exhibition path, beneath the medieval vaults of the former church of San Marco in Vercelli, it is possible to admire about 50 masterpieces by Chagall alongside works of Italian expressionism from the twenties and thirties, in a dialogue of poetics and affinities between different worlds and artists. Curated by Francesca Villanti, the exhibition explores Chagall’s extraordinary life and career. In the works by Chagall on display, the artist’s dearest themes are encountered: the perennial sense of exile, love, religion, animals, dreams, poetry. The author was deprived of his native land twice: first by emigration and then by the total destruction of the village of Vitebsk at the hands of the Nazis in 1941: in response to these these deprivations, Chagall was able to recreate in memory the poetic world of his childhood and youth.
