Venue: Town Council Chamber. Address: Town Council Chamber, Piazza Rsorgimento 1, 12051 Alba, CN Barnaba da Modena’s “Madonna che allatta il Bambino” or "Madonna del Latte", a precious painting from around 1380, is on display in the Town Council Chamber, in the heart of Alba’s historic centre. The fourteenth-century work, of significant historical and artistic interest, is a tempera panel painting measuring cm 102x69 with a punched gold ground with small stars, depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child sucking milk. The work is a masterpiece that combines the majesty, linearity and rich gilding inherited from Byzantine art with the elegance, softness and new humanity of the Gothic style. The painting became public property this year, thanks to the generous donation to the City of Alba by Dr. Giovanna carina Bergui. Other Madonnas with the Child by the painter Barnaba Agocchiari, known as Barnaba da Modena, can be admired in Piedmont, in Tortona in the Church of San Matteo and in Turin, in the Civic Museum of Ancient Art housed in Palazzo Madama.
