Kirinyaga. Radici sacre identità viva
29 January 2026 — 29 November 2026 · Torino

Place: Cam. Cultural Centre of the Consolata Missionaries. Address: Via Cialdini 4 Kirinyaga is the sacred mountain known as Mount Kenya . That is what the Kikuyu call it, the largest ethnic group in Kenya, best known thanks to Wangari Maathai (1940 - 2011), human rights activist, environmentalist, scientist, academic, politician, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 for “her contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace” and author of the autobiography Only the Wind Will Bend Me . In the exhibition route, more than a hundred everyday objects, work tools, tobacco boxes, “spirit-chasers”, weapons, instruments for divination and for treatments in traditional medicine are interwoven. But also testimonies from the missionaries who over the years documented the customs and traditions of the Kikuyu people. Kirinyaga therefore aims to reconstruct everyday practices, stories, oral histories and genealogies that have defined Kikuyu identity across different generations.
