Fiera del Bue Grasso e Sagra del Cardo Gobbo

Nizza Monferrato celebrates the Bue Grasso Fair in November together with the Cardo Gobbo Festival, bringing together prized meat and the vegetable symbol of the area. Nizza Monferrato, a town in the Asti area of Monferrato in the land of Barbera, and the homeland of the Cardo Gobbo di Nizza, a cardoon with a curved shape obtained through a particular underground cultivation technique, which makes it white, tender and sweet, ideal for bagna cauda. The fair combines the exhibition and competition of the Piedmontese breed fat ox, whose meat is the basis of bollito, with the festival of cardo gobbo, the star of autumn cuisine. The food stalls offer bollito misto, bagna cauda with raw cardo gobbo and the other vegetables, together with agnolotti, raw meat and traditional Monferrato dishes, accompanied by Barbera d'Asti and local wines. The event combines gastronomy with livestock exhibitions, markets, live music and activities for families.
