The regional listing describes the programme as follows: The usual appointment on the third Sunday of the month of October, which takes place along the streets of the Historic Centre, has very ancient origins. It is certainly one of the best-known popular fairs in Piedmont and was established in 1286 by Duke Amedeo V° of Savoy to reward his subjects who had just sworn allegiance to him. Games and dances were organised and there were stalls full of goods where the common people stocked up for the winter, but above all the famous “subièt”, characteristic terracotta whistles with which small concerts were improvised upon the arrival of the King and his Court. In 1344 the fair was regularised with exemption from tolls and bridge transit duties for the entire duration of the event, which took place at the end of October. Everything remained unchanged for centuries until 1865 when Turin had to give up its role as capital of the newly born Kingdom of Ita. It is organised by Pro Loco di Moncalieri.
