Place: CDT Multipurpose Hall On 1st October 2026, at 17:30, in the CDT hall in Largo Barale, 1 the exhibition “The whale has arrived. Sociability, consumption, leisure. Posters 1946-56” opens. Conceived and curated by the Historical Institute of the Resistance and of Contemporary Society “D.L. Bianco” in collaboration with the Archive of the Municipality of Cuneo, the exhibition tells, through wall posters, a decade of city life from the perspective of the history of customs. On leaving the dark twenty-year period of cultural homogenization and the five years of war, in fact, the city rediscovered the desire to be together and organized its sociability through associations that, finally free, offered a plurality of proposals linked to leisure, politics, and sport. At the same time the cinemas – the Monviso, formerly Casa del fascio, the Lanteri, the Cinema Teatro Vittoria – looked to Hollywood and made spectators dream: stars and cowboys, swing and marines, the America of the Allies was there, a full-fledged cultural reference.
