Address: 15033 Casale Monferrato There will be three events dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi and the Franciscan presence in the history of Casale Monferrato on the occasion of the eight-hundredth anniversary of the death of the Saint, with a programme that intertwines institutional celebration, historical research, literature and music. The first event is scheduled for Monday 5 October at 10,30, in Piazza San Francesco, at the monument to San Francesco Orante, with the commemorative ceremony of the Patron Saint of Italy. After greetings from the Mayor of Casale Monferrato, Emanuele Capra, and Rev. Mons. Francesco Mancinelli, reflections on the figure of Saint Francis are entrusted to Father Massimo Colli Franzone. The ceremony will be accompanied by musical entertainment by the schools of Casale. The programme will continue on Friday 9 October at 18,00, in the Senate Hall of the Civic Library “G. A concludere il programma sarà, domenica 11 ottobre alle ore 21,00, presso l’Auditorium Santa Chiara, “Arbor Vitae. Da San Francesco a Ubertino da Casale”, iniziativa organizzata dalla Biblioteca Civica “G. Canna” in collaborazione con l’Associazione Arte e Storia e l’Ensemble “Gli Invaghiti”, che proporrà un percorso tra storia, letteratura e musica dedicato a San Francesco e, in particolare, a Ubertino da Casale, protagonista della prima fase della storia dell’Ordine francescano e leader della corrente degli Spirituali: la sua vita, tormentata e complessa, è ricordata anche da Dante nella “Divina Commedia” e, in epoca più recente, è tra i protagonisti de “Il nome della rosa” di Umberto Eco. Il titolo della serata richiama l’ “Arbor vitae crucifixae Jesu Christi”, opera di Ubertino pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1305 e ampiamente diffusa in Europa. La sua vicenda umana e spirituale sarà ripercorsa attraverso gli interventi storici di Antonella Perin e Luigi Mantovani, le letture di Giorgio Milani e le musiche selezionate ed eseguite dall’ensemble.
