Casale Monferrato, AL
A town on the right bank of the Po, historically the capital of the Marquisate and Duchy of Montferrat and later an industrial cement town. It has an unusually dense run of baroque palaces for its size, a major Romanesque cathedral, and one of Italy's most important surviving 16th-century synagogues.
