Sordevolo celebrates in October Un Amore di Polenta, the festival dedicated to the symbolic dish of the Biellese mountains. Sordevolo, a village at the foot of the Biellese Alps, dedicates an autumn fair to polenta that fills the village with stalls and food stands. Polenta, cooked for a long time in the pot according to tradition, is served hot accompanied by local melted cheeses, meat sauces and dishes from the Biellese mountain cuisine, in a festival that celebrates a food that has nourished mountain families for centuries. The stands also offer the other products of the Biellese area, cured meats and traditional dishes, accompanied by local wines. The fair combines gastronomy with markets, live music and activities for families, in an autumn celebration that honours the flavours of the mountains. Sordevolo is especially famous for the Passion, the great popular re-enactment of the Passion of Christ that the village stages every five years, involving hundreds of inhabitants in one of the most important shows in Italy, with a dedicated amphitheatre.
