Although they open up completely different horizons, both describe a world endowed with order and stability. But we live in the age of technology. The enchantment of the world typical of the ancients is over. The disenchantment of moderns, who still acted according to a horizon of meaning and a purpose, is over as well. Technology does not aim at a goal, does not open up scenarios of salvation, does not reveal the truth: technology works. Ethics, as a form of acting in view of ends, celebrates its impotence.
