Place: Fosseno Among the hills of Alto Vergante, just a few steps from Lake Maggiore, the small village of Fosseno di Nebbiuno celebrates its Strawberry Festival every year, an event that has its roots in an agricultural tradition now sixty years old. When in the ’60s the village was famous for growing the prized Madame Mouton strawberry, few would have imagined that that passion for the red fruit would become a collective identity. Today, organized with dedication by the Nuova Famiglia Fossenese del Cucù, the festival becomes an occasion for the community that attracts visitors from all over the region, eager to savour the fruits of the land and the authenticity of a village that jealously guards its agricultural heritage. On the first weekend of June, the squares of Fosseno come alive with colours and scents: stalls brimming with fresh strawberries, jars of artisanal jams made according to traditional recipes, and typical sweets that tell family stories. But the strawberry risotto is the true star of the festival, a signature dish that combines elegance and simplicity, served during convivial lunches and dinners under the central marquee.
