Mostra Pomologica di Villadossola

Villadossola celebrates in October the Pomological Exhibition, dedicated to ancient fruit and the forgotten varieties of the Ossola. Villadossola, a town in the lower Ossola near Domodossola, hosts an exhibition that gathers and displays the ancient varieties of apples, pears and other fruits that once grew in mountain orchards and that risk disappearing, in work to recover the agricultural biodiversity of the valleys. The pomological exhibition displays dozens of varieties of ancient fruit, often unknown, which enthusiasts and producers are bringing back to light, and experts tell the history and characteristics of these fruits. The food stalls offer desserts, juices and jams made from fruit, together with traditional Ossola dishes and local products. The event combines the exhibition part with markets, workshops on the recovery of ancient varieties, live music and activities for families, in an autumn festival that celebrates biodiversity.
