End: 20:00 In densely built urban areas, temperatures can reach significantly higher levels than in the surrounding areas: this is the phenomenon known as urban heat islands. The third meeting of “Dialoghi Europei”, scheduled for Thursday 29 October from 18,30 to 20 and entitled “Cambiamenti climatici su scala locale” (Sala Stura at Casa del Fiume, Cuneo - Piazzale W. Cavallera 19), will focus on this fundamental topic. The featured speaker of the evening will be Sofia Fellini, a researcher in environmental and hydraulic engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, where she teaches Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics and coordinates the doctoral program Urban Climates. The expert’s research activity focuses on urban fluid dynamics, which is essential for understanding how heat accumulates and is distributed in cities. Starting from an analysis of climate impacts on urban centers, the talk will offer concrete elements to assess how urban structures respond to the general rise in temperatures.
